Desktop to Mobile

Transfer Files from PC to Phone Using a QR Code

Send documents, photos, and videos from your desktop or laptop straight to your smartphone without plugging in a USB cable or installing software.

The Cable-Free Way to Send Files to Mobile

Plugging a USB cable into your computer to transfer a quick file often involves unlocking the phone, accepting trust prompts, navigating complex device folders, or installing manufacturer device drivers.

With ShareOnline, you transfer files wirelessly in seconds using your phone camera and standard web browser. No native mobile app installation is required on iOS or Android.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open ShareOnline on your PC: Navigate to shareonline.net in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, or Apple Safari on Windows, macOS, or Linux.
  2. Select the file: Drag and drop your file into the Send File zone or click Choose file to browse your desktop filesystem.
  3. ShareOnline creates a transfer session: An instant 6-digit room code and vector QR code appear on your PC monitor.
  4. Scan the QR code with your phone: Open your smartphone's camera app and point it at the QR code on your PC screen. Tap the notification banner to open the room link.
  5. Transfer the file directly: Both browsers negotiate a direct WebRTC connection. The file streams directly from your PC into your phone browser and triggers a download save.

Supported Platforms & Operating Systems

  • Desktop Computers: Windows 11, Windows 10, macOS (Sonoma, Ventura, Monterey), Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch, Mint), and ChromeOS.
  • Mobile Phones: Apple iPhone running iOS 14+ (Safari, Chrome) and Android smartphones from Samsung, Google, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Motorola running Android 8+ (Chrome, Firefox, Samsung Internet).

Why Direct P2P Streaming Is Better

Unlike emailing yourself attachments, which caps file sizes at 25 MB and clutters your inbox, or uploading to cloud drives that consume limited storage quotas, ShareOnline streams file chunks in real time. Your files never touch a remote server hard disk, and the session expires as soon as the transfer finishes.
